Inspired by the first post I decided to open up the curtains a little more. I sort of surprised myself last night when I found myself writing both lyrics and this blog, since usually I struggle with the lyrics to come out to the last minute and with Metamorphosis, I was literally writing some lyrics in the studio 5 minutes before going to vocal booth to record them. It's always like going through hell while writing the lyrics and it's a task that I both enjoy and hate at the same time. The frustration of sitting on a chair in front of a computer watching the cursor flick on an empty screen at the end of an half of a sentence for six straight hours and knowing that you aren't exactly getting anywhere is overwhelming. But eventually every now and then you get an epiphany, or just one single word, that triggers process, opens the block and the lyrics start pouring out. When that happens, it is very rewarding to see how this one tiny spark gets turned into a forest fire and all those blocked emotions are starting to take a form in a song.
While Metamorphosis was based on hope and surviving from a serious depression, which I'll get back to later on another entry, this new album will be much darker on the lyrics. So far the lyrics have been going through disappointment and pessimism towards the humanity through metaphoric images. I guess that it would be much easier if I could write some stereotypical rock 'n' roll cliched "Oo yeah, baby baby you turn me on" lyrics, but even tho there's a place for that in the music scene as well, it's just not something that I could do. To me music is a form of art and (to me) the true art is about exploring, about going deeper underneath the surface and finding the true source that brings the art itself to life. True art is not going through rules, books and lectures about how to do it, but finding your own voice within and figuring out how to manifest that into the form of your choice. That is the reason why the path less traveled on rewards more than the path that is laid before you by others and offers just the same old stuff that every other path has to offer.
Since throughout my whole life, music has been a very important aspect in my existence and that is one of the reasons why I take it so serious as an form of art, instead of a soundtrack to a party. Naturally just like beauty, the art is in the eye of the beholder and everyone has their own different tastes in art, something speaks to you and something doesn't. To me 99 percent of the mainstream music today represent a painting of a vase or a fruit bowl, it might be very well painted, but it's still just a vase or a fruit bowl, there's nothing to think on, nothing underneath the surface to explore, there's just this lukewarm piece of tasteless meat that has chewed out for you so you can consume it as easy as possible. Like musical version of Jerry Bruckheimer movie, just sugarcoated surface without an actual content. But like I said, the beauty of art is that it has something for everyone and there is no one absolute truth and just one path to choose from. It just might not be the path for me, just like the path I am on is definitely not for the majority of the people. People shouldn't get offended if something they like is not something that someone else likes, all in all it's as pointless as getting offended if someone likes Renoir over Picasso, it's mainly a matter of preference and it shouldn't be out from one's own enjoyment if others agree or not, so everyone just chill out and enjoy the art while it still lasts
